Morgan '20 Investigates Environmental Challenges at WYSE

Junior Justice Morgan represented St. Andrew’s at the selective Washington Youth Summit on the Environment earlier this summer.
The forum, which took place from June 24-29 at George Mason University, is an intensive, week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Participants heard from leaders in environmental activism, including Ralph Nader, and learned about current conservation efforts in the Washington, D.C., region.

Justice, who is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and is passionate about animals and the environment, was selected to attend the summit based on his academic accomplishments and demonstrated interest in science and conservation studies.

“I enjoyed the experience of meeting with speakers from various backgrounds who offered their professional insights on the environment, and I enjoyed getting to meet peers with the same interests who came from many other parts of the world,” Justice said.

Highlights included visiting his Maryland state congressman’s office to discuss environmental issues, as well as getting up close with animals at the National Zoo and in the Rappahannock River, Justice said.

“My WYSE experience has given me a lot more information on the different careers surrounding the environment. I have also learned a lot more about the environment and how I can help out in protecting it,” he said. “I feel that getting to meet and become friends with people from so many different places has also helped me to look forward to having similar experiences in college.”
