International Students

International students at St. Andrew’s join a global, diverse, and welcoming student community. Our international students are actively involved in extracurricular activities including visual and performing arts, athletics, and student clubs. We welcome well-qualified students from around the world.

International Student Program

Students enjoy the benefits of studying in an inclusive independent college preparatory school community and experiencing American culture through our Homestay Program or a residential house next to campus.

St. Andrew's is proud to be partnered with Research Schools International which is led by individual members of the faculty of The Harvard Graduate School of Education and The Johns Hopkins University School of Education and Medicine.

Our teachers benefit greatly from these partnerships and bring excellence in teaching to each classroom. Our unique approach to teaching and learning ensures that each student reaches their maximum potential.

After a student is accepted and enrolled in St. Andrew’s, the I-20 is issued through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

We encourage all applicants to visit campus and to have the required interview in person. If that is not possible, we can arrange a Skype or phone interview. Contact Randy Tajan (rtajan@saes.org) to schedule the required admission interview.
  • Testing

International students are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  St. Andrew’s TOEFL school code is 2618. A TOEFL score of 80, or higher, is preferred. International students with demonstrated native proficiency (e.g., raised in an English-speaking country/school) would not be required to take the TOEFL.  International students are encouraged to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT).
  • Transcripts and Teacher Recommendations

Applicants are required to have a transcript submitted directly from their current school. The transcript must be translated into English and must include current trimester or semester grades in addition to grades from the past two years. Applicants are required to have two recommendations (one from their current English teacher and one from their current math teacher) submitted directly from their teachers in English.

English

International students are required to take grade-level English as well as an additional English Language Intensive Course (ELI).  International students with demonstrated native proficiency (e.g., raised in an English-speaking country/school) are not required to take the ELI course.  St. Andrew’s does not offer an ESL class. Our international students are expected to fulfill all graduation requirements.  The foreign language requirement may be waived for non-native-English-speaking international students.

Housing

International students may participate in our Homestay Program, either with a family or in a residential house near campus. Participating in our Homestay Program allows international students to fully immerse themselves in American culture and family life.

In addition to tuition, international students pay an annual housing fee to participate in our Homestay program. Once an applicant is admitted, he or she will receive detailed information about our Homestay Program. A deposit is collected at the beginning of the year to cover school related incidentals. Any unused funds from the deposit will be returned at the end of the year. Financial Aid is not available for international students.
