International Students

International students at St. Andrew’s join a global, diverse, and welcoming student community. Our international students are actively involved in extracurricular activities including visual and performing arts, athletics, and student clubs. We welcome well-qualified students from around the world.

International Student Program

St. Andrew’s offers a dynamic international student program. Students enjoy the benefits of studying in an inclusive independent college preparatory school community and experiencing American culture through our Homestay Program.

We work exclusively with Ivy International Group (IIG) for all international applicants. Ivy International provides the highest standards of support to international applicants and enrolled students, and will guide you through the application process.

Visit

Come visit us to see St. Andrew’s in person! Contact the St. Andrew’s Admission Office (admission@saes.org) to schedule your tour. We recommend all families visit the St. Andrew's campus if possible during the admission process. Tours are offered throughout the school year and summer. Admission interviews can be arranged in advance and scheduled at the conclusion of the campus tour.

  • Application

  • I-20

    After a student is accepted and enrolled in St. Andrew’s, the I-20 is issued through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
  • Interview

    Admission interviews are required for all international applicants. We encourage applicants to visit campus and interview in person. If that is not possible, interviews can be arranged via Ivy International. Please contact Anna Katten at Ivy International, akatten@usivy.net.
  • Testing

    International students are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). St. Andrew’s TOEFL school code is 2618. A TOEFL score of 80, or higher, is preferred. International students with demonstrated native proficiency (e.g., raised in an English-speaking country/school) would not be required to take the TOEFL. International students are encouraged to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT).
  • Transcripts and Teacher Recommendations

    Applicants are required to have a transcript submitted directly from their current school. The transcript must be translated into English and must include current trimester or semester grades in addition to grades from the past two years. Applicants are required to have two recommendations (one from their current English teacher and one from their current math teacher) submitted directly from their teachers in English.

English

International students are required to take grade-level English as well as an additional English Language Intensive Course (ELI). International students with demonstrated native proficiency (e.g., raised in an English-speaking country/school) are not required to take the ELI course. St. Andrew’s does not offer an ESL class. Our international students are expected to fulfill all graduation requirements. The language requirement (French, Spanish, Mandarin or Latin) may be waived for non-native English-speaking international students.

Housing

International students at St. Andrew’s may participate in our homestay program. As a member of the host family household, international students are included in family meals, outings and other experiences. Participating in our homestay program allows students to fully immerse themselves in American culture and family life. Ivy International will make all homestay arrangements and provide additional orientation, social, and cultural events to all of our international students.  
 
Please note that homestay is only available for Upper School students (grades 9-12). Younger students must reside with at least one parent in the local area.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is a private, coeducational college preparatory day school for students in preschool (Age 2) through grade 12, located in Potomac, Maryland.
