Armbruster '18 Defends Title at Bullis Invite

Luke Armbruster began his senior cross country campaign on a high note by winning the Bullis Invite Saturday morning.  In doing so, he defended the individual title he won last year, while leading the boys’ cross country team to a tenth place finish of thirteen teams.

On a beautiful day for racing, Armbruster was challenged for most of the 5 km race by Washington Latin’s Luke Tewalt.  While Tewalt led the race through the first mile, Armbruster caught up and the two ran together for the second mile.  With a half mile to go though, Armbruster broke Tewalt to win by seven seconds in 16:51.  For Armbruster, the 2016 MAC League Champion, it was his sixth individual victory over nine races dating back to last fall.

Sophomore Thomas Casasola was the next finisher for the Lions.  Much improved over where he had been at the beginning of 2016, Casasola finished in a time of 19:24 for 34th place in the 82-man race.  Senior Colin Hendrie was the third man for St. Andrew’s, racing to 51st place in a time of 20:26.

Freshman Stephen Speyer emerged as a runner with good potential.  His time of 22:25 was good enough for 73rd overall. Sophomore Nick Tsintolas was the final scorer for the Lions, finishing in a time of 23:20 to finish in 78th place.

Sophomore Justice Morgan (24:53/80th) was the final varsity finisher for St. Andrew’s.

The team next races on Saturday, September 16 at the Hood College Invite.
