Lindsay Scherr Burgess ‘00 is the founder and “Moss Boss” of Green Wallscapes, a West Palm Beach-based studio that creates preserved moss walls, logos, and large-scale art installations for clients across the country. What began in 2016 as a creative experiment, inspired by a Pinterest post and launched with a small Etsy shop, has grown into a thriving and nationally-recognized business with projects in more than 35 states and Canada.
“It really started as something fun. But at the time, my husband was working in LEED certification and reviewing a lot of architectural plans. He began noticing living green walls being specified more and more in those projects and said, ‘People are actually requesting these at a much larger scale.’ That’s when we realized there might be a real opportunity here.”
Today,
Green Wallscapes has completed installations for major brands including Starbucks, Stella Artois, and Amazon, as well as corporate headquarters, offices, studios, and residences nationwide.
Before launching Green Wallscapes, Lindsay worked in organic produce, construction, commercial real estate, and publishing - experiences that helped her develop the sales, marketing, and business development skills she now uses daily.
“When you’re just gluing moss to a board, you don’t think about hiring, manufacturing, fireproofing, project management or negotiating contracts,” she said. “I’ve had to learn every part of the business, and work on myself along the way.”
A graduate of Northwestern University, Lindsay traces much of her confidence and curiosity back to her years at St. Andrew’s. She credits the school’s emphasis on writing and critical thinking, especially rigorous English classes and the Oral History Project, with shaping her communication skills.
"That’s how I learned to write and edit,” she said. “It made me an excellent writer and communicator.” Her involvement in theater and improv also left a lasting mark. The confidence she developed on stage now translates directly into sales presentations and client meetings.
“Some of the training I learned from improv, I use in sales,” she shared. “It taught me how to think on my feet, be confident and connect with people.” As a student, Lindsay also co-founded a student club focused on issues affecting young women. Today, that same passion has evolved into a network of female entrepreneurs who meet regularly to talk about investing, business growth, and building generational wealth. “If you understand resources, you have power,” she said. “I like being around smart, powerful women and having real conversations.”
Now based in Florida with her husband, Jon, and their daughter, Skylar, Lindsay continues expanding her business, guided by a commitment to continuous growth and evolution.
