We've had a month of learning and growing in second grade!
Dear Parents,
It is hard to fathom we have already been in school for a month of learning and growing in second grade. Thank you for making time to speak with us this week at parent-teacher conferences and allowing us to share observations, growth points, and areas we will focus on in the coming weeks with your amazing children.
Please be on the lookout for an email from Chris Litvak, our SAPA representative, with upcoming opportunities to get involved in our classrooms, parties, and field trips. We are thrilled to be able to have parents back in our building and interact in many of our activities.
We are finishing up our initial math unit and will be taking our assessment this coming week. We will jump immediately into Unit 2, which focuses on fact strategies as well as reviewing and extending program routines explored in first grade. Frequent experiences will prepare children to know from memory all sums of two 1-digit numbers by the end of the year. Be on the lookout for the family letter outlining strategies, vocabulary, and ways to involve and reinforce daily lessons at home.
Students are busy putting the finishing touches on their puppets, which are based on their summer reading. Each student chose their favorite character, wrote detailed descriptions of their unique character traits, and are creating a video on the “Puppet Pals” app to give a brief overview of the book series and a book recommendation for others in the class. Be sure to ask your child about this comprehensive project.
We hope you have a wonderful long weekend with your families.
