Lions Launch

This program will provide students with the opportunity to better understand elements of the Science of Learning, hear from experts in the field, support the Academy attendee experience, and offer a unique perspective by contributing to the Student Voice presentations. Students will support the CTTL with preparing event materials, logistics, and marketing efforts.

The goal of this fellowship is to develop each student's qualitative and quantitative research method skills for projects exploring educational questions related to teaching and learning at St. Andrew's. The fellowship course is a time commitment equivalent to a trimester class spread out over two trimesters. Students will receive third-trimester credit for their work and an academic and effort grade during the third trimester. During the year, CTTL fellows will meet with the CTTL research team to develop skills that will be applied to student-generated research questions, which will be examined independently and in teams. Students will also evaluate the learning strategies that they are choosing to use in their academic studies at St. Andrew's.

In the D!Lab independence is earned through preparation. Students who complete certification on tools, machines, and safety procedures and commit to the responsibilities outlined in the D!Lab Contract Agreement become trusted members of a community of interns who can work independently in the lab as well as act as helpers when teachers or students need help with projects.

This annual social justice hackathon is designed to harness the collective creativity and expertise of its participants, driving meaningful and sustainable change. During the three-day hybrid program, students work collaboratively with cross-school teams to solve critical issues through technology, education, communication, political activism, civic engagement, and more.

As an alternative to the required Senior Service Project, students are invited to secure and complete an internship, apprenticeship, or job-shadowing experience in the final weeks of senior year. Students are encouraged to explore fields and industries that align with their interests, whether they hope to pursue them academically or professionally, or simply want to learn more.

Student-teachers will provide homework assistance and high-quality childcare for elementary-aged children. No prior experience is needed. Student-teachers are asked to work for at least one day per week for two trimesters each school year. The trimesters do not need to be consecutive.

Student-teachers will assist with providing high quality programs for preschool and elementary-aged children. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals that enjoy working with children and may be interested in careers in education. Student-teachers are responsible for supervising children and planning safe, fun, and engaging activities. Prior experience as a student assistant teacher in our extended care program is preferred.

Students in grades 9-12 who are appointed or elected to leadership positions in special interest clubs, affinity groups, student government, or athletic teams will participate in four annual workshops to prepare them for their roles as student leaders. These workshops will cover topics including, but not limited to, leadership theory, building trust as a leader, building community, leader self-care, project planning, establishing a leadership brand, leading through a DEB lens, and more. Participants in these workshops will receive guidance on tactical leadership skills such as project management and communicating with school administrators and senior leadership. Additionally, they will be better prepared to lead within the school community and beyond. Active participation in all four workshops is required.
