The Team
Established in 2016, St. Andrew’s Varsity Swimming & Diving has always been a team where young people can explore their promise as both successful swimmers and divers as well as effective leaders. Community, leadership, team spirit, fun, and hard work form the backbone of Varsity Swim & Dive, and swimmers and divers of all ability levels are valued and equal members of the team. Meeting athletes where they are is important, as is helping them achieve the lofty goals that they set for themselves. The coaching staff is dedicated to guiding each team member towards their full promise in the sport not only as athletes but also as young leaders, good teammates, and great people who have
fun together training and competing in a sport they love.
The St. Andrew’s Varsity team is competitive within the ISL (women) and MAC(men) conferences and is also a member of the WMPSSDL league which pits the swimmers and divers against larger and very competitive teams. For the Varsity team, the season culminates in ISL and MAC Conference Championships and the WMPSSDL Championships in late January/early February. Athletes who qualify for Metros are welcome to extend into the postseason in order to compete against the fastest athletes in the region.
The Varsity program invites swimmers of all ability levels to be a part of the community. Athletes are broken into small groups that align with each athlete’s current ability and goals, and with multiple knowledgeable and experienced coaches on deck, they will receive the feedback and work they need to progress towards those goals. Athletes regularly engage in peer coaching as well, helping each other with new skills and refining strokes and techniques collaboratively. Heavy emphasis is placed on proficiency and efficiency in all four strokes, proper body alignment, underwater and surface kicking, and starts and turns.
The Team Philosophy
By respecting the development of our CORE VALUES of Inspiring Community, Dynamic Growth, Transformative Achievement, and Visionary Leadership, each athlete's individual goals are accounted for and form the backbone of their overall growth as an athlete and person. While athletic performance is important, the team focuses exclusively on the long-term development of the whole person physically, mentally, and socially. An athlete's full potential is never sacrificed for short-term achievement.
