Eight Students Win Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Eight St. Andrew’s artists were honored with Scholastic Art & Writing Maryland Region awards, including two Gold Key Awards. Katia Atiyah ‘22 and Amelie Pandit ‘23 received those top awards.
Atiyah picked up her Gold in Painting for her landscape art, titled “For Your Father,” and Pandit earned Gold in the Jewelry category for her beadwork piece, titled “Solstice.”
 
Four students were recognized with Silver Key Awards: Valeska Peters ‘22 in Comic Art with her strip, titled “Strawberry Pie;” Hannah Portner ‘24 in Photography with her waterfall landscape, titled “Glory;” Hannah Twomey ‘22 in Printmaking with a panel titled “Simplicity II;” and Jasmine Wang ‘24 in Photography with her piece titled “Cherish Present.”
 
Four students received Honorable Mentions for their art and writing: Yejide Fagoroye ‘23 in Drawing & Illustration for “Our Cracked Craniums;” Sasha James ‘22 in Critical Essay for “A Plea for Justice;” Hannah Portner ‘24 in Photography for “Awaken;” and Hannah Twomey ‘22 in Printmaking with a second panel titled “Simplicity I.”

Atiyah and Pandit will advance to the national competition by virtue of their Gold Key Awards. Those will be announced this spring.
