Live Theater in MacDonald Hall Returns with Night of One-Acts

The theme of the show is relationships of all types. Performances are Friday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 30 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students. The show is free for all St. Andrew’s students and faculty/staff.

 

Five one-acts have been selected for the production (see synopses of the one-acts below). Complementing the evening will be an original piece written by Director and Drama Teacher Ritchie Porter and Abigail Gaughan ‘22, and a dance performed by Mia Redjaee ‘23 and choreographed especially for the production by St. Andrew's Dance instructor Taniya Williams.

 

“After a year and half without live theater at St. Andrew’s, we thought it would be fun to get back into the swing of things by presenting an evening of one-acts,” Porter said. “We picked the theme of relationships to honor how important our connections have been since March 2020, while acknowledging that our socializing skills may be a little rusty. It’s been a while since we have all been together, hence the title, ‘Do I Know You?’”

 

The Cohen family returns home from a trip on Christmas Eve, only to find their house ransacked. In the midst of their squabbling, they remember that it’s also the second night of Chanukah. Will the family be rescued by a mysterious note and the light of a camping lantern?

 

On a New York Subway, a married couple, Amber and John, and their single friend,  Terry, part ways with a member of their circle, Natalie. The three have to deliver the classic “It’s not you” breakup speech, all before the train arrives at W. 4th street. 

 

A mother and daughter sip and savor General Foods International Coffee on the porch. However, their moment of cheerful intimacy soon descends into a playful mind game of hidden identities and intrigue. 

 

At a cheap all-night diner, Whitney breaks up with her boyfriend of three weeks, Peter, whose main flaw is that he can see two minutes into the future. But maybe even a psychic can be pleasantly surprised. 

 

Three construction workers take their lunch break, sitting on a girder fifty stories above Manhattan. They talk about their sandwiches and read the newspaper, but don't think they are as ordinary as they initially seem.
