Kehler Leads Lions to Fourth Place at MAC Champs

Harrison Kehler led the St. Andrew’s boys’ cross country team to a fourth place finish at the MAC cross country championship on Saturday October 26. His breakout performance was one of a number of highlights for the Lions at the meet, including 15 runners setting personal bests. The team now holds a 16-8 record on the season.

Kehler, a sophomore, cut 81 seconds off his previous personal best for 5 kilometers to finish the race in 17:28 to take eighth place overall. His efforts also earned him All-MAC honors for the first time and moved him into eighth place on the St. Andrew’s All-Time top 20 5km list.

Sophomore Charlie Ryan had a standout race as well, breaking 18:00 minutes for the first time to finish in 17th place out of 47 runners in a time of 17:59. He, too, moved into the St. Andrew’s All-Time top 20 5km list as the 12th fastest runner in St. Andrew’s history. Senior Thomas Casasola, despite struggling with asthma during the race, cracked the St. Andrew’s All-Time top 20 5km list as well. His time of 18:06 was an improvement and earned him 17th place on the list.

Senior captain Nick Tsintolas also had a big race, finishing 24th overall in a personal best of 18:32. Sophomore Jack McCloy, coming back from injury, ran a strong race to post his fastest time ever in 18:42 to take 28th place and round out the scoring for the Lions.

Freshman Tyler Povinelli raced to a personal best time of 18:52 (29th place), one of the fastest freshman times ever posted by a St. Andrew’s runner. Freshman Alex Myler (46th – 22:50) was the final varsity finisher for St. Andrew’s.

In the Varsity B race, sophomore Connor McCloy teamed up with junior Stephen Speyer to lead the team to a second place finish of five teams. McCloy crossed the line in 19:40, a personal best, to earn Varsity B All-MAC honors for his sixth place finish. Speyer was right behind in 19:41 to take eighth place and Varsity B All-MAC honors as well.

Other runners setting personal bests included senior Justice Morgan, junior Jake Ravitch, and sophomores Will Clark, Aaron Lobsenz, Alex Blass, CJ Schlegel, Hunter Qin, and Charlie O’Keefe. The Varsity B squad is now 14-8 on the season.

The team’s last race will be the Small School State meet on Saturday November 9 at Georgetown Prep.
