St. Andrew's Graduates Class of 2019 at Washington National Cathedral

On Friday morning, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School graduated 74 seniors in a ceremony held at Washington National Cathedral. Christina Goldbaum, reporter for The New York Times and a 2010 graduate, was the school’s commencement speaker.
Goldbaum, who started her journalism career as a foreign correspondent in Kenya and Somalia, spoke to the assembled students, family, teachers and administrators about the rewards of taking risks.

“The best advice I can offer you as you embark on this journey is to take risks, be bold and do the things that scare you, because doing so will lead you to the places that will most likely have meaning,” she said.

Head of School Robert Kosasky began the ceremony by thanking parents, faculty and staff, and trustees for helping students reach this important milestone, and expressed his appreciation for the graduating class.

“Each of you has made our school richer by your presence,” Kosasky said. “You class has made St. Andrew’s more thoughtful and certainly more spirited. I’m proud of you and will miss you.”

A pair of students offered reflections on behalf of the graduating class. William Alexander offered the first reflection. He will attend Elon University in the fall. The second reflection was offered by Ava Katz. She will attend Villanova University in the fall. A prayer for the Class of 2019 was offered by Giselah Graf-Suleman and Molly McMillen, who will attend University of Pennsylvania and Towson University, respectively.
