Middle School Girls Cross Country

Middle School Cross Country is a sport for individuals who want to improve their overall fitness level, increase their stamina, and learn to enjoy running and competing in cross country races. We accomplish these goals by increasing the distance and speed at a pace appropriate to the individual in order to consistently improve and avoid injuries; t
eaching proper form and practice strategies for running in races; and incorporating games and team building activities into the workouts. Our team practices daily during the Middle School sports period and competes in the fall.

In addition to the mechanics of running, runners also learn about the importance of stretching, building core strength, and practicing proper nutrition and hydration. There are generally 5 or 6 meets throughout the season, including the ISL/MAC championship. Races take place over a variety of terrains and are around 2 miles in length. Cross Country enables runners to set individual goals as well as contribute to the overall team effort.

"People can’t understand why a person runs. They don’t see any sport in it. They argue that it lacks the sight and the thrill of body contact. Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than many other sports. For in running it is person against himself, the cruelest of all opponents. Their adversary lies within, in their own ability, with brain and heart to master themselves, their emotions, and their pain." -- Glenn Cunningham
