This week, Upper School students came together to honor this year’s visual and performing artists with recognition and awards meant to commemorate their achievements in the studios and on the stage.
On Wednesday, the Performing Arts Assembly was held with three “Eighter Awards” handed out to students who participated in all eight Upper School productions during their time at St. Andrew’s - Kati Ahuja ‘25, Melissa Nugent ‘25, and Rhian Williams ‘25. Others winning awards were: Ahuja (Vocal Music: Director’s Award), Ashley Antezana ‘25 (Theatre: Swansong), Danny Lobsenz ‘25 (Jazz Ensemble: Charlie Parker Award), Finnegan McManus ‘25 (Performing Arts: Late Bloomer), Nugent (Technical Theatre: Director’s Award), Ian Sabin ‘25 (Theatre: Physical Performance Skills), Ada Shin ‘25 (Theatre: Director’s Award), Kendyl Barrett ‘26 (Theatre: Improv), George Baumgardner ‘26 (Show Band: MVP Award), Cameron Best ‘26 (Vocal Music: Golden Mic), Sophie Li ‘26 (Show Band: Outstanding Instrumentalist Award), Greg Wayne ‘26 (Jazz Ensemble: Outstanding Instrumentalist Award), Lucas Chen ‘27 (All Music Ensemble: Director’s Award), Anastasia Doulaveris ‘27 (Dance: Spirit and Commitment Award), Andrew Warmenhoven ‘27 (Show Band: Director’s Award), Angelina Chen ‘28 (Theatre: Newcomer), Sam Kallaur ‘28 (Jazz Ensemble: Discovery Award), Matthew Kobrick ‘28 (All Music Ensemble: Discovery Award), and Zelie Mwumvaneza ‘28 (All Music Ensemble: Outstanding Instrumentalist Award).
On Tuesday, there was a Visual Arts Assembly which recognized students that won SAPA Judges Choice Awards as well as those recognized by the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the Maryland Region. This year, St. Andrew’s had a record nine students winning 13 awards, including AB Tsai-Turton ’26 who won a Gold Key Award for “Red Reverberation” and Harry Wang ’28, who won a Gold Key for “Dog” and a Silver Key for “Friends.” Students receiving Honorable Mention were Ahuja ’25, Antezana ’25, Kate Hudgins ’25, Carmen Ashworth ’26 (twice), Anna J. Cerveny ’26 (twice), Vince Wayne ’26 (twice), and Wang.
