Preschool C Homeroom News: Nov. 20, 2020

PS C continues to explore and use their imagination in the classroom.
Preschool C continues to explore in the classroom and use their imagination when drawing and creating in the design center. We have made telescopes and binoculars from paper towel rolls. During our farm and nutrition study we planted lettuce seeds, and have discovered that they need a lot of sun and water. We might have enough for a nice green salad soon.  We read the story of Grandmother’s Garden by John Archambault.  The story told us about how different children came together and grew lots of different plants.

This month’s theme has been transportation. We learned about three different modes of  transportation -  air, water and land and vehicles like planes, trains, busses, cars that are used to get around from one place to another. We learned how in different countries the busses look a little different and are called jitneys. We heard the story Amazing Planes by Ant Parker and Tony Mitten. This story told us about how we travel by plane and all the different parts that make it work. The book inspired us to make paper airplanes and we took them outside to fly them. We flew them from the top of the playground, and some really took off. In the classroom we set up a road with different road signs and traffic lights that really worked, and had so much fun running our trucks and cars on the road. We also learned that there are special rules of the road, too.

We  have been working on our fine motor skills by stringing beads to make different designs of  necklaces.  Art class with Mr. Pyles  was so much fun as he beamed in from the circus. Mr. Pyles told us about a famous artist Alexander  “Sandy” Calder.  He did all kinds of different sculptures made from different wires.  We got creative and made different sculptures out of pipe cleaners, buttons, and legos.  We are now talking about Thanksgiving and ways to give thanks to our family and friends.  As the weather has been great, we have taken every chance to play outside.

We will be in distance  learning on November 23-24 and November 30-December 4.  Today, Friday November 20, your child will bring home a bag with supplies for lessons, plus their iPads. Daily lessons will be posted on Seesaw. Notification will be sent out if we continue Distance Learning in December.

Have a wonderful Holiday.
