Applicants to Kindergarten through Grade 5 are required to have an admission test individually administered by an approved educational diagnostician at a testing service center.
Applicants to Kindergarten and Grade 1 take the Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV). Applicants who are already 6 years old at the time of testing will take the WISC-V.
Applicants to Grades 2 through 5 take the WISC-V. Please note that advance test prep will invalidate WPPSI and WISC results. In addition, these tests may only be given once in a calendar year. Please contact your child’s tester to have the test report sent directly to St. Andrew’s Admission Office.
Applicants to Grades 6 through 12 are required to submit standardized testing as part of their admission application. St. Andrew’s requires either the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE). These tests are timed, multiple-choice tests that include a brief essay question. They are offered at various test center locations throughout the Washington, DC area and are used by many independent schools as an admission examination. St. Andrew’s accepts the PSAT in lieu of the SSAT or ISEE for students applying to Grades 10 and 11.
The SSAT school code for SAES is 6266. The ISEE school code for SAES is 211222.
Please note that all application materials are due to St. Andrew’s by January 13, including standardized test scores. Therefore, the January test date is the latest test administration of the ISEE and the SSAT that will enable us to consider your child’s application for the March decision deadline. Late applications will be considered as space allows.
Although St. Andrew’s does not endorse any particular tester, the following testers provide admission testing for many area schools. Please call them directly to schedule an appointment and to verify the cost of the test.
