SAES Boys Win MS Soccer Tournament

Posted October 30, 2012

The SAES boys team won the Middle School Soccer tournament Friday, October 26th.

The boys started with a tough game versus St. John. This team we had beaten easily before and they decided to pack in their defense. Their goalie had many fine saves. Baraka was playing fantastic and helped keep the ball in the offensive half. As we began to make preparations for a possible penalty kick tie breaker, we broke out with a fast break from the left side. Alex Smith carrid the ball and got past the defense. He passed the ball to the top of the penalty box where Santiago managed to just beat the keeper and bury the ball into the net. With 1:30 left on the clock St. Andrew's managed to win the game with a single goal.

The second game against Latin proved to be less difficult. St. Andrew's put together one of their best games of the season. The defense pushed by high and the vast majority was played in the offensive half. Baraka, again, was excellent in spreading out the ball. Alex Smith scored 2 goals, the first being a exciting strike from outside the penalty box that just squeezed inside the post. Baraka would finish off the scoring in the second half with a well taken penalty kick.
