2012-2013 Opening Chapel Service At National Cathedral

Posted August 28, 2012

Dear Parents,

We hope that these last few days of summer are marked by rest and joy for your family. As we continue to prepare our campuses for the children’s arrival in September, the excitement is building to get the academic year underway.

In that vein, we are once again privileged to hold our annual K-12 Opening Chapel at the Washington National Cathedral on Friday morning, September 7th, at 8:40 a.m. We are excited to return to the Cathedral after an absence last year due to of the August 2011 earthquake.

We also are excited because of some special guests who will be worshipping with us this year. Les Petits Chanteurs, the renowned boys’ choir of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Music School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, will be joining us to fill the Cathedral with their glorious voices. Over the past two years, St. Andrew’s has been cultivating a partnership with Christ Roi Episcopal School, Civol, which is located in rural Haiti. This partnership was established through the National Association of Episcopal Schools, and the stateside coordinator of the partnership program, the Rev. Roger Bowen, will be our preacher at the Cathedral. We hope that the presence and participation of both Rev. Bowen and Les Petits Chanteurs in our yearly tradition will enrich our growing relationship with the people and culture of Haiti.

As always, parents are invited and encouraged to attend Opening Chapel at the Cathedral. You are also welcomed to bring your student to the Cathedral by 8:30 a.m. instead of doing early drop-off (7:15 a.m.) at school and having your student ride the bus to the Cathedral. ALL students will return to school on the bus at the conclusion of the service. If you would like to bring your child directly to the Cathedral, please make sure to communicate this to his or her homeroom teacher or advisor.

Also, please note that this is a dress-up day for all students. Please see page 33 in the Lower School handbook and page 79 in the Postoak handbook for additional details.

We sincerely hope to see you at this glorious worship service. It is a wonderful and invigorating way to begin the new school year.

Please feel free to contact either of us should you have any further questions (bgonzalez@saes.org or palexander@saes.org).

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Faithfully,

The Reverend Betsy Gonzalez, Chaplain to the Lower and Intermediate Schools

The Reverend Patty Alexander, Chaplain to the Middle and Upper Schools
