International SAES Travel for Parents & Alums

  • Updated on 8.6.07
St. Andrew’s is excited to offer a brand new travel program designed particularly for current parents, parents of alumni, and alumni:

The Parent/Alumni Cultural Exchange, Service, & Safari Expedition to South Africa:

Tentative dates:  August 4, 2008 – August 18, 2008.

Description:

This trip parallels the South Africa trip that our students have made during their spring breaks for the past six years.  It is an experience built from our relationships with St. Joseph’s College, one of the first high schools in Capetown to integrate during Apartheid, The Pilanesburg Game Reserve, The Paballo Street ministry program at Central Methodist Church in Johannesburg, and the Bokamoso Youth Center in Winterveldt.   To control expenses we will be staying at Bed and Breakfasts, and eating simply except for special selected African “feasts.”  In Winterveldt, we will stay in a Guest House built by Seekers Church to host international workers in the Bokamoso projects in Winterveldt.  This will be tour director Roy Barber’s 21st trip to South Africa, a trip developed with his friends and connections there.  We will be traveling in excellent buses (via Welcome Tours) with well-known guides both in Capetown, and in Johannesburg and Winterveldt.  Including airfare, the tentative cost range is $3500 - $3800.  Faculty & Staff Organizers: Roy Barber, Racquel Yerbury, Bernie Fitzsimmons.

The focus of this trip is maintaining our SAES community --our connections to one another-- while we explore the world together.  Please note that SAES only covers costs and makes no profit from its international travel programs.  For more information or to reserve a spot, please email faculty member Roy Barber or Racquel Yerbury at ryerbury@saes.org   An informational meeting with Roy, Racquel, and others will be held in the Winter of 2007.  Interest in this trip is already very high!  Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to secure a spot.

Please note that our tentative parent/alum trip to Chilean Patagonia (Dec 2007) has not made its quota of participants and thus cannot run.  Thank you to those who expressed interest in that trip.  If you have ideas for an SAES alum or parent trip and know of a group of potential participants with serious interest, please contact Racquel Yerbury ryerbury@saes.org  or  Bernie Fitzsimmons bfitzsimmons@saes.org.
