The arts make up one of the four pillars of a St. Andrew’s education. All students participate in an artistic pursuit. The arts develop one of the most important aspects of a liberal education—creativity. Creative thinking, whether exercised over a potter’s wheel or in a spirited discussion in the classroom, is valued highly at St. Andrew’s. For some students, participating in the arts is a process of self-discovery. For others, learning to work together, in a school play or in the orchestra, demonstrates how the whole can sometimes be sublimely greater than the sum of its parts. The arts open our minds and extend our horizons.
