Intermediate School Admission FAQs

FAQ

Q

How big is the Intermediate School?

A

For the 2012-2013 school year, approximately 70 students make-up the Intermediate School (Grades 4 - 6). We have two sections of 4th grade, one section of 5th grade, and two sections of 6th grade, with capacity for 19 in each section.

Q

What should I expect during my tour and interview at St. Andrew’s?

A

For applicants to Grades 4 & 5, the tour and interview are conducted with the parent(s). For applicants to Grade 6, both the student and the parent(s) are required to tour and interview.

Your tour, which begins in the Admission Office, will be led by a St. Andrew’s staff member, parent, or student, and will last about 40 minutes. You will see the entire campus, view classes in action, see classrooms, and have an opportunity to ask questions about all facets of life at St. Andrew’s. Your tour guide will bring you back to the Admission Office.

If you are interviewing for Grades 4 or 5, you will then spend about 40 minutes with an Associate Director of Admission, who will ask questions designed to help us learn more about your child. This is a great time for you to bring up any questions or concerns you may have.

If you are interviewing for Grade 6, your interviewer will spend 20 minutes or so in private conversation first with the student and then another 20 minutes or so privately with the parent(s). In getting to know more about the applicant, your interviewer will ask about academic interests, athletic activities, and outside hobbies. This is a great time for students and parents alike to bring up any questions or concerns you may have.

Q

What should I do if there is bad weather on the day of my tour, interview, or student visit?

A

Please call the school at 301-983-4730 or check this website for information on weather-related closings or delayed openings.

On 2-hr delayed openings, all shadow visits, tours, and interviews scheduled before noon are cancelled.
