The St. Andrew's Middle School program addresses the developmental needs of early adolescents. The academic program emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and study skills in a structured classroom setting. Students are encouraged to become active learners through individual oral and written assignments, group projects, experiential and service learning and interdisciplinary explorations, all designed to foster the development of academic discipline and classroom cooperation. Students are provided opportunities to interact with a variety of technological tools and resources in order to prepare them for participation in an information rich society.
A sense of community is important to the Middle School program. This sense of community is designed to develop honor and respect for the difference and uniqueness of each individual while developing a sense of responsibility toward themselves, their classmates and their school community. Curricular integration, advisor groups, arts exhibits and performances, and class activities promote a feeling of belonging. Working cooperatively, students develop an understanding of the need for patience and the value of hard work. The Middle School program builds self-confidence, personal responsibility and a healthy self-image with a variety of opportunities for student success and growth.
To accomplish these goals, the Middle School teachers are organized into grade-level teams of advisors and teachers. These teams meet often to coordinate the program and focus on meeting the specific needs of students.
