We warmly welcome our new and returning students and their families to our Extended Day Program. We have many students enrolled each year, and it is a wonderful, safe, and enriching environment. All students (PSI - 3rd grade) can participate for an additional fee, including on a drop-in basis with advance sign-up. We have morning care every day from 7:30 - 8:30am and aftercare every afternoon until 6:00pm. A team of teachers will directly supervise students in age-appropriate groups. At their respective dismissal times (12:00pm for PSI, and PSII, 2:30pm for PK, and 3:30 for K-3), students will be escorted to a classroom designated for the Extended Day program. In an effort to be clear about expectations, here are a few things you should know:
- Preschool I and II Extended Day students eat lunch (either brought from home or ordered through our school lunch program) and take an afternoon nap each day. We request a blanket and a favorite sleeping buddy (if applicable) be brought to school each week for naptime. The blanket will be sent home every Friday to be cleaned and returned, and the stuffed animals, pacifiers, etc. will go home each day in a child's backpack.
- Pre-Kindergarten - 3rd grade students should bring a nut-free, healthy snack to school each day clearly labeled with his/her name and marked "Extended Day", allowing children to have an afternoon snack that is safely brought from home. Occasionally we will provide snacks for the children that are surplus from that days' school events, so please let us know also if you do not want your child/children eating anything not brought from home.
- Kindergarten - 3rd grade students work at grade-level tables to complete their homework, with the supervision of a teacher, during Extended Day each afternoon. As a parent, please still remember to check your child/ren's homework in the evening so that you know what is expected for the following day.
- When picking up your child/ren in the afternoon, you should enter through the Front Office and sign-in before going to the Extended Day classrooms. If the Front Office has been locked for the evening, please ring the doorbell outside of the playground entrance to the school to be greeted.
We have structured a program that is a continuation of your child/ren's day. Our program integrates appropriate rest periods and lots of time to play and learn (both outside and inside) for all of our students. A general schedule of what the afternoon includes will be sent home at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year, once you have enrolled in the program. If you have questions about the Extended Day Program, please contact Josephine Ofori-Atta, Extended Day Program Coordinator, at
joforiatta@saes.org or Dresden Koons, Head of Lower School, at
dkoons@saes.org. We look forward to a fantastic year!
