Extended Day Program and Procedures
Intermediate and Middle Schools 2012-13
Students in Grades 4 - 6 who remain on campus after 3:45pm (4th and 5th graders) or 4pm (6th graders) are expected to participate in our extended day program. In this program, students are directly supervised by an adult until their ride picks them up or they get on one of our shuttle buses. Families may use this service on a drop-in basis and will be charged a fee of $15/hour billed every half hour.
At 3:45pm 4th and 5th grade students are escorted to the bus and remaining students then move to a lower level classroom designated for this program. 6th grade students here after 4pm are expected to come sign in to this room. Games, a computer cart, the bathroom, IS library section, and indoor activity space are available to these students for their use. From approximately 4-4:15pm students are served a snack provided by the school. From approximately 4:15-4:45pm students work on homework and are able to get guidance from the proctor on duty. From approximately 4:45-6pm remaining students have a variety of activities from library visits, to outside games or playground time, to other fun activities, crafts, etc determined by the supervisor.
The school does not provide a directly or indirectly supervised extended day program nor any organized after school activities for Middle School (7th and 8th grade students apart from band and chorus). These students are certainly encouraged to stay and cheer on our Upper School athletic teams and/or meet with teachers or tutors but otherwise we encourage parents to pick their children up at or before 4pm. After 4pm, MS students are allowed to be in certain designated areas (the library to study or an unused field to play) on the campus until they are picked up or they get on a shuttle bus. Students are expected to meet behavior expectations and stay in designated locations, or they will lose the privilege of being on our campus after hours.
At 6pm, the extended day supervisor sweeps the building and grounds for any MS students and stays with them until their ride arrives. Families with an IS or MS child (4th - 8th grade) on campus after 6pm are charged a dollar a minute until he or she is picked up.
